
1. A workshop was held for Coastal Centre Board of Directors and staff on December 19, 2002. The objectives of this workshop were to:
Create draft vision and mission statements for the Coastal Centre
Define the geographic scope of the Coastal Centre
Develop a list of program priorities
2. Six community focus groups were held involving invited participants from specific sectors, as well as partnering organizations:
Southampton – January 14 and February 18, 2003
Goderich – January 21 and February 25, 2003
Sarnia – January 28 and March 4, 2003
The goal and objectives of the focus group workshops were:
Goal: To involve the coastal community in charting a course for the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation
Objectives:
To raise the level of awareness about the Coastal Centre
To solicit community direction
To seek sustainable funding sources
To build our Board of Directors.
Within the community focus groups, the vision, mission, and priorities were tested and refined. Draft targets and actions were developed by the participants and prioritized based upon the perceived needs of participating organizations. Potentially sustainable funding sources were identified and several individuals put their names forward as candidates for the Board of Directors.
3. Specific meetings / workshops were held with certain groups to solicit input from those groups identified as having specific concerns or interests with respect to Lake Huron. This included:
Land Use Planning staff from the counties of Bruce, Huron, Lambton, the City of Sarnia and the St. Clair Region, Ausable Bayfield, Maitland, Saugeen and Grey Sauble Conservation Authorities on June 13, 2003 in Bayfield.
First Nation communities (Nawash, Saugeen, Kettle & Stony Point) September 4, 2003 in Goderich.
Environment Canada and Ontario Ministry of the Environment on December 2, 2003.
