
The Centre is governed by a Board of Directors made up of dedicated community volunteers who have a commitment to Great Lakes conservation. The Directors represent a diverse group of professionals who provide strong leadership and representation.
Matthew Pearson - Chair
Mr. Pearson is a Registered Professional Planner and currently works as an Environmental Planner with B.M. Ross and Associates of Goderich, Ontario. Matt is a founding Director of the Lake Huron Coastal Centre.
Pamela Scharfe - Vice-Chair
Pamela lives in Bayfield on the shores of Lake Huron. She is a graduate of Ryerson University; a retired Public Health Inspector with 35 years experience; and is currently working as a Project Manager in the Planning Division of B.M. Ross and Associates of Goderich, Ontario. Pamela has been a cottager since childhood at a beach north of Goderich and is very passionate about water protection and has sat on a number of committees dealing with local and Great Lakes water protection issues.
Nancy Turcotte - Treasurer
Nancy is retired Clerk of the Municipality of Kincardine. Nancy is a long time resident of Kincardine, and has a strong interest in lakeshore conservation.
Brian Luinstra, PhD, P.Geo - Past-Chair
Brian is a hydrogeology consultant from Kincardine. Brian works locally with area conservation authorities, including as Water Resources Coordinator with the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority. Brian works with other agencies and organizations on groundwater protection issues, and works internationally on issues related to hydrogeology. Having grown up on the shores of Lake Huron, Brian maintains a strong interest and concern on the well-being of Lake Huron.
Anne Eadie - Director
Anne lives in the Township of Huron-Kinloss on the shores of Lake Huron. She is a retired teacher with 25 years of experience and is a municipal Councillor with the Township. Anne has a strong interest in improving the health of Lake Huron's coastal environment and in promoting environmental education.
Bonnie LaFontaine - Director
Bonnie has had a varied work experience, including Executive Director of the Huron United Way and Economic Development Officer with the Municipality of Huron East. She is an active environmentalist with a strong interest in youth education. Bonnie is currently the Youth Education Chair of the Goderich Legion Branch #109 and surrounding Zone C1 (including Kincardine, Mitchell and Wingham, Ontario). Ms. LaFontaine was also a municipal Councilor with the former Township of Colborne.
Stephanie Donaldson - Director
Stephanie is a community activist and environmentalist from the Grand Bend area. Stephanie has a great interest in coastal wetland and dune protection, and in community education about coastal environmental issues. She has been instrumental in securing sensitive lands for protection in the Port Franks area of Lake Huron.
Doug Freiburger - Director
Doug lives in the community of Port Elgin in the Town of Saugeen Shores. Doug owns and operates Groundhog Divers in Port Elgin and Orangeville. He is the Deputy Mayor of Saugeen Shores, and Chairperson of Saugeen Conservation. Doug has had a long standing interest in conservation issues in the Bruce-Grey region and Lake Huron.
Ben Vandiepenbeek - Director
Ben is the current Reeve of the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and participates on the Huron County Water Protection Committee. He is currently on the Board of Directors with the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority as a representative from the Township. The MVCA has appointed Ben to the Coastal Centre's Board.
Brian Kelly - Director and Counsel
Mr. Kelly is a lawyer with the firm Kelly & Company of Kitchener, Ontario. He is a cottager on the MacGregor Point shores of Bruce County, and is an active advocate of dune conservation in this area.
Gordon Boyd - Director
Gordon is a resident of Southampton and active with the Southampton Residents Association, the Town of Saugeen Shores Parks and Trails Committee, Marine Heritage and Naturalists Clubs. Gordon has a strong interest in beach conservation initiatives, and involving youth in learning about coastal stewardship. Mr. Boyd is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and spent a working career in business where he lived in parts of Asia and the Middle East.
Dianne Sutter - Director
Dianne is currently Chair of the Friends of Sauble Beach, a community based organization with an interest in dune conservation. Dianne is a graduate in Geography from McMaster University and has worked in the private and public field of conservation and government throughout her career. She presently is a Deputy Commissioner of the Mining and Lands Commission for Ontario.
Jo-Anne Harbinson - Director
Jo-Anne is currently the Manager of Water Resources and Stewardship Services at Saugeen Conservation and has worked at for the SVCA for 19 years. Having grown up in Southampton and worked in the environmental planning field for a number of years, Jo-Anne is very familiar with and understands the importance of the unique and diverse ecosystem along the Lake Huron shoreline. Jo-Anne has been appointed by the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority to sit on the Centre's Board.
