2001 Year in Review
Here's what we've been up to this year ...
Water Quality
- Prepared background paper on the state of Lake Huron’s water quality entitled “Working Toward Clarityâ€.
- Organized a Water Quality Summit conference held in Goderich.
- Prepared proceedings of the Water Quality Summit.
- Participated in the Pine River Watershed Improvement Network, a community based network of organizations working to improve the water quality of the watershed and the lakeshore in Huron-Kinloss.
Climate Change
- Developing education resource curriculum on climate change and the Great Lakes for elementary schools.
- Invited to participate on Steering Committee and attend national workshop on Climate Change and Canada’s coasts.
- Hosted a Symposium on the implications of Climate Change on Lake Huron’s coastal communities.

Coastal Processes
- Developing a guidance manual for Beach and Dune conservation in Saugeen Shores.
- Implementing measures to control erosion on Port Elgin’s beach.
- Provide water levels monitoring and advisories to agencies, municipalities and the community.
- Provide technical advisory services on issues concerning coastal erosion and dune conservation.
- Supervise dune field studies with local elementary students.
- Conducted hazard setback evaluations in Ashfield - Colborne-West Wawanosh.
Biodiversity
- Community advisory and management planning for beach restoration south of Port Elgin.
- Participated on the Terrestrial Service Team for the Maitland Watershed Partnership.

- Participate on Healthy Futures Project Evaluation Committee for Huron County.
